Helping Those in Need

Hurricane Harvey has caused an unprecedented and catastrophic flooding in southeastern Texas. In a four-day period, many areas received more than 40 in of rain as the system meandered over eastern Texas and adjacent waters. Harvey is the wettest tropical cyclone on record in the contiguous United States. The resulting floods prompted more than 13,000 rescues, displaced more than 30,000 people, and inundated hundreds of thousands of homes. Catastrophic flooding is ongoing in the Greater Houston area with many calling Harvey the worst disaster in Texas history, with the expected recovery to take many years. Preliminary estimates of economic losses range from $10 billion to $160 billion with a large portion of losses sustained by uninsured homeowners.

We are working with Calvary Chapel Lake Houston and Pastor Jim Bob Benton to coordinate relief efforts to those affected by the storm. At this time, flooding is still a major problem and the only transportation into and out of the area is by boat. In the days ahead we will get a better picture of what and how best to meet the needs of those who lost their possessions / cars / homes. We will post the information on this site as more becomes available. Thank you for your interest, support and prayers.
